Why do some countries issue two VAT numbers? Do I need both?
Some countries will issue you both a local number and an intra-community VAT number.
The local VAT number is a unique identifier assigned to businesses within a specific country for domestic transactions.
Countries that issue you a local number do so because local law requires businesses to have a local number before they can have an intra-community number.
Intra-community VAT numbers are used for transactions between businesses in different EU member states.
